Art Historian & Advisor to Collectors of Contemporary Art

Lauren Rotenberg is a contemporary art historian specializing in international contemporary art and the art market.

A former professor with a PhD in History of Art, she advises collectors building and refining postwar and contemporary art collections across North America and Europe.

Background

With over two decades of experience across institutional and commercial contexts, Lauren’s work spans academia, curatorial practice, and the art market.

She was core faculty in the MA Contemporary Art program at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and lectured on contemporary art in the History of Art Department at University College London and in the Fine Art Department at Goldsmiths. Lauren has curated and led programs at leading institutions, including Tate Britain, Gasworks, and Camden Arts Centre. 

Advisory

Her advisory work supports collectors in building bespoke, focused collections with long-term cultural and market significance.

Speaking & Appearances

Lauren delivers talks for private banks and advisory groups, including HSBC and Ernst & Young. She has published and presented papers on her research and participated in panels with organizations including the Association of Art Historians and the College Art Association.

Lauren appears in the documentary Drift, which premiered at SXSW in 2026.
